Yikes, I seem to have screwed things up pretty badly. I’m running a Manjaro Linux installation, and a couple days ago I switched my desktop from Mate to Plasma. But I noticed two annoying things: The login screen was still using Mate’s display manager, not SDDM. The desktop was defaulting to Mate, and had to be manually changed to Plasma on every login. So today I had the “bright” idea Hi, How can I change the desktop manager to KDE plasma in debian 12? I searched online about this but I can only find about changing to kde in ubuntu.
Enable auto login from GUI. Start by opening up the application launcher and navigating to the System Settings menu. Opening System Settings menu on KDE. In the System Settings panel, click on the Startup and Shutdown tab in the left pane of the window. Click on the Startup and Shutdown option.
Among distros that use apt, debian seems to be the best, no nonsense distro. So as suggested by u/Volitank, you should first install debian with no gui and then install kde-plasma-desktop and plasma-nm packages. But looking at the specs, plasma might be a bit heavy on you system.
Bugwise, my experience with KDE on Debian 11 (stable) is almost without any issues. The few I have: can't change profile picture (known bug) can't disable popup for "Disks & Devices" (feature removed in KDE 5.20, feature reinstalled in KDE 5.21/22). You can circumvent the issue by editing the appletsrc config file.
Comprehensive tutorial on how to enable/add and disable/remove the official Debian 12 contrib and non-free package repositories along with practical examples. www.linuxconsultant.org. Debian is solid and a good distro. But it doesn't hold your hand either. So don't be afraid to experiment if needed.
Add a comment. 0. For newer Debian versions (starting from Debian jessie upto sid), you can install the task-kde-desktop package : $ sudo apt-get install task-kde-desktop. It installs kde-standard + task-desktop (xorg + xserver-xorg packages) + the display manager packages. Share.

2 Install a Windows 11 global theme. Once you’re done installing KDE Plasma, it’s time to bring the Windows interface over to Linux with the help of a Windows 11 theme. The best thing about

In the last week, KDE released version 5.23 – 25th Anniversary Edition – of the Plasma desktop with the usual long list of updates and improvements. This release celebrates 25 years of KDE, and Plasma 5.23.0 was released right on the day 25 years ago Matthias Ettrich sent an emai l to the de.comp.os.linux.misc newsgroup explaining a project ggVWt.
