Reason being is because I feel like the visceral intense 1st person interactions between the protagonist and villains were a really important component of all the previous Far Cry games. Could you imagine Far Cry 3's story with all of the Jason - Vaas/Hoyt cutscenes being viewed as a floating camera off to the side in 3rd person?
Previous level editors have been pretty decent in size to be fair, so they probably didn't need to get any bigger. This is a great example of just how wild user made maps in Far Cry 5 can be.

The map is gorgeous and filled with content. Removal of annoying mechanics like tower climbing and pointless animations (Skinning, wound healing, patting bodies) are little changes that have come a long way for me. The side missions are also a step up from previous games as they are higher quality and more varied.
Apparently it will take over an hour to walk across the map. Far cry 5 took just under an hour. So it's meant to be bigger than that and I already found that map to be more than enough lol.
